Greg Gaar

Greg spent his youth inventing the shopping cart recycling movement.  Instead of being a part of the scene, he was the scene in the Haight Ashbury collecting bottles and cans and picking up trash from the parks and hills of San Francisco.  Greg was recruited by Ed Dunn Sr. who started the recycling center at 780 Frederick Street in the 1970’s and became its first employee.  He eventually began a native plant nursery on the site to preserve and nurture ecology that was specific to the San Francisco peninsula.  Greg can often be seen taking space all over the city and giving it to native plants to thrive.  He is the original occupier 780 Frederick Street.
